Spring 2017 Membership Meeting and Luncheon

Marion Pressley, FASLA

Principal at Pressley Associates Landscape Architects, Boston

Marion led us on a presentation of the history of the Muddy River Project and where it stands today.

Marion’s portfolio of notable projects include award-winning park designs, historic landscape preservation planning projects, and the implementation of treatment work on a wide spectrum of landscapes including parks, parkways, historic cemeteries, and private gardens.

Also at our Spring Meeting, The Boston Committee was pleased to award the Boston Bowl for Civic Achievement to former Governor and First Lady, Michael and Kitty Dukakis. The Dukakis’ have been advocates for the environment for many years. Among his achievements as Governor, Michael Dukakis prevented a major highway from cutting through the center of the city. He championed public transportation, famously riding the T whenever possible. Kitty Dukakis has been a fierce advocate for the elimination of billboards, a project the Garden Club of America has been intimately involved with since the 1920s. Additionally, Kitty promoted planting wildflowers along the Massachusetts Turnpike, an idea supported by Lady Bird Johnson who shared Mrs. Dukakis’ interest.
