Fall 2024 Meeting report

On Tuesday, October 29th, the Boston Committee met at the Brookline Country Club to hear from David O’Neil, Executive Director of Mass Audubon. O’Neil discussed the importance of nature and the work that Mass Audubon is doing to secure ecosystems and habitat throughout the state.

We also heard from Laura Jasinski, Executive Director of the Charles River Conservancy, who discussed exciting developments along the river and introduced us to some of the technological advances being researched to promote wetland habitat and water filtration.

This year’s Boston Beautification Award was given to the Garden Club of the Back Bay in recognition of five decades of service to the care and maintenance of the street trees of the Back Bay.

Finally, Franklin Park Zoo COO Bob Chabot and Zoo Horticulturist Josh Meyer were presented with the final tranche of their multi-year Blossom Fund Award, which funded improvements at the Arthur Shurcliff-designed rock garden at the zoo.

The Blossom Fund

In 1997 we formed The Blossom Fund that provides “seed” monies to assist in launching projects of horticultural impact within Boston. Our belief is that a healthy urban population and vibrant economic hub will benefit all.
